Basic Survival Course
Courses run from 20.00hrs Friday night to approximately 13.00hrs on Sunday.
They are run from our training ground 5 miles northwest of Brecon (Directions will be provided upon booking, together with a detailed list of equipment required for the course).
The course is not designed to be arduous but please bear in mind this is Wales.
During the weekend you will be instructed on and get hands-on experience, where possible, of the following subjects:
- Mountain safety and emergency procedures
- How to plan for and avoid survival situations
- The basic needs of survival
- Basic map and compass navigation/night navigation
- Direction finding using the sun, stars and plants
- Fire lighting by friction and other means
- Edible/medicinal/poisonous plants and fungi
- Trapping and fishing techniques
- Skinning and preparation of animals/plants for food
- Water collection/filtration/purification/distillation
- Preparation and use of survival equipment
- Shelter building
All of our instructors are First Aid trained and have proven themselves to be competent team leaders with an in-depth knowledge of subjects taught.
We provide breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings and an evening meal on Saturday nights.
Weekend courses £150 per person.

Note: For those worried about the trapping and preparation of wild game, no animals are caught or killed on our courses. Game is provided dead and those wishing to have a go at skinning may do so.
